I'm about to update my drum rack from modules I already own, this is a mockup of a possible config;
ModularGrid Rack
This is the current config;
ModularGrid Rack

I still like the Tiptop Audio drum modules because they sound goood, they are important in these setups.

general opinion:
+ lots of trigger control
+ sufficiant dynamic control

  • limited modulatory functions
  • no noise source

I would love to hear opinions,

Cheers!

I would love to hear it :)
Effects next? You use pedals or VST?

Thanks Rolling-Rat for the response, I had half made my mind up on The Brinta but always like to hear peoples views. What you see in my rack is what I own so no Bloom 2 for me for probally a long while.

To gain some more hp back I will change Brains for the Big Music T version as it's half the size and then I have space for something quirky in the future.

VCO out should go to the audio in of the Wasp filter. The out of your Tilt should go to the CV input of the Wasp and Gristleizer (for a classic subtractive patch). Out of the Wasp into the Gristleizer input. Gristleizer output into your mixer. Adjust settings of Gristleizer bias and Wasp level and frequency to taste.
Have fun!

HI and welcome! we have similar taste in music, I play drum in a punk/hc band and also make industrial/PE ;-)
Make sure you are transmitting and receiving on the same MIDI channel from keystep to the Doepfer A 190-3
Hope it helps

I feel stupid and I've been avoiding asking the internet for help, because people are assholes. but after a few weeks of getting nowhere, I need to reach out. I mostly make power electronics on my own, play synth and bass live for an electro-industrial project, and when I jam with friends hardcore and crust punk. I always wanted to get into modular synths and eurorack, but never had the funds. this year, I read into eurorack and modules and ordered what I needed for a basic set up, leaving myself room in case to add much more later.

I have used semi-modular synths before. I've made sure all of my modules are plugged in correctly. with the Behringer Euro Go, it's pretty hard to fuck it up but I still made sure. when I go to patch, I just don't get any sound except from the mixer. if i patch the vco to the mixer, i can get some sound from the vco, but that's it. I tried watching videos to see what I'm fucking up and I've made sure to read all my equipment manuals. I've used my keystep 37 with my TE Medieval, but I can't patch it correctly to my eurorack. I've included photos but what I have:
Behringer 112 (vco), Doepfer Wasp filter, After Later Audio Tilt (function generator), Future Sound Systems Gristlizer TG4 (vca), Behringer 305 (mixer/sound source), Doepfer A-190-3 (midi-to-cv/gate). I also have delay and reverb modules but haven't touched those yet. and if you can't tell from the photos ;
keystep 37 midi to the gate
gate > gate input on function generator
pitch > vco input
cv note > vco input ( also tried adding velocity to vco input but it's not pictured)
vco out > cv 1 on filter (also tried audio in)
filter lp/hp out > vca input
vca out > mixer input
function generator out > mult >filter audio in and vca cv1

What am I doing wrong? am I missing something. I don't have any friends into modular, so you guys are my best hope.

Hi!
Brinta is brilliant!! Would be a good choice!
I I may add further - unwanted ;-) - commentary:
Wait for the Bloom V2, should be a huge step up!
And, you can't really go wrong with Plaits/Brains, but I wonder whether it might be more fun to add a dual osc analog voice like Archaea Loki or or so. But that is obviously a very personal choice and investment. (And trends show having both anyway ;-)
In any case, have fun!!

Thread: This wiring

hi,
Here is the audio input wiring on a Grone Manecolin that has problems with its runglers - could this be the cause?"
the runglers stops randomly

I am feeling the need to purchase one more module - I have been good so far and not bought anything this year BUT I have been drawn in by the Brinta by Error Instruments. My set up ambient / generative, with ST Modular Radio as a fun voice and 2HP loop to record it or Endless Processor.

Error Instruments Tassel I feel looks great but will not hold as much enjoyment and use as Brinta.

Do you think it would be a wortwhile addition to my rack?

ModularGrid Rack
Many thanks in advance.

I completely agree with your dissagree, with the right tools i probably could do it.
In reality, I've enough things to think about without learning a new skill set just at the moment haha

Enjoy your spare HP, don't rush to fill every last space, this is not like filling sticker books. Resist the urge to 'complete' your rack, its never complete so just relax.

This current synth is a pure Doepfer machine with a mixture of West and East coast styles.
It is heavily inspired by Buchla Easel.

Allow me to disagree. If you're able to build thru-hole, you'd be able to succesfully build SMD. You just need a different set of tools, namely a very thin soldering iron - I prefer a needle - thin wire, some flux and a magnifying glass to get you started. I've used a hot air station solely for soldering QFN packages, but anything down to 0604 size is perfectly doable by hand.

If you have a Turing Machine, grab a Pulses expander kit: ideal to start building SMD! There's many others available which aren't hard at all (NLC, Beers to name a few).

I'm only capable of thru-hole DIY builds so unless, like with Sloths, I got someone to build me something most of the NLC stuff is off-limits to me.

Kinda, yeah. Lots of DIY in there, which I think is excellent.

You really went all in on the NLC didn't ya! ;-)

How is the Oxi working for you and how do you use it?

I hereby post a nice and enjoyable challenge:

Make a sweet looking Rack with a focus on design choices. It should of course male sense.

This is my first post in a forum here, i hope it will work at all and will possibly be inspiring.

Have fun

Hey all,
Hope all is well!

Here is an iteration on my palette travel case, for minimalist techno. Please let me know your thoughts, things you'd change, swap etc.

ModularGrid Rack

It's basically a "complete" standalone drum machine. Pony VCO will take care of Leads, Tymp Legio will do the kick and some round background bass notes. Pony VCO will go through filter and Desmodus and then into Tymp, for some Ducking. Then the S-LD will provide 3 samples which will be mixed and filtered via Eudemonia. Then I'll mix what comes out of Desmodus and Eudemonia in the Xoh. Pons asinorum will provide enveloppe for Pony and LFO for melody (through the Mosaic quantizer) plus 2 LFOs for modulation via the 1U attenuators in the top right corner. Steppy will sequence Lead, Kick, "snare" and Melody LFO reset. Running order will take care of HH and another perc.

That's pretty much it. I think it will be fun.

cv2 is definitely controlled by velocity and works

cv3 doesn't respond to channel aftertouch

any tips on how to use cv3?

it's not the easiest module to use in a way, i preferred my old roland mpu 101

thanks

Just finished my 6 NLC FM-OP's, so here's my first patch using all 6 voices.
Four FM-OP's are routed through the Natural Gates, the remaining two are patched straight into Beads.

Enjoy!

I agree with Ferranadsr, start with the Oneroi and a modulation source: WMD javelin, or a MN maths work great.

Hi Helmut,
In my opinion, Oneroi and Forge are too much for the size of the setup.
But considering that you'll need a lot more modulation than Pamela provides, I wouldn't hesitate to start with Oneroi and add, for example, a Marbles (Random CV) or a Zadar (4xenvelope generator).
Although I have one, and given its size, it's a good module, I don't think you'll notice the Pico DSP too much with the Oneroi.
My advice, if you haven't bought anything yet, is to get the Oneroi first and then see what you need. Oneroi is a huge instrument on its own.
Best regards,
ferran

Hi everyone,

I’ve put together my first Eurorack setup on ModularGrid and would really appreciate your feedback before I start purchasing modules. I'm especially interested in whether the system feels functionally balanced and if you have any suggestions for improvements or alternatives – particularly with regard to flexibility and future expansion.

Use Case:

  • I'm aiming for a compact system focused on drone, ambient, and experimental sound design.

  • Pamela’s Pro Workout serves as the central clock/modulation hub, and I’d like the option to sync to an external clock (e.g. DAW or hardware).

  • I want the ability to mix voices individually and together, and send a stereo output to an external analog mixer.

  • The system should work both standalone and integrated into a hybrid setup with DAW or external gear.

Current module list:

  • Forge TME Vhikk X – Wavetable Drone Voice

  • Jolin TABØR – Percussive/Stochastic Drum Voice

  • Befaco STMix (DIY Kit) – 4-channel stereo mixer

  • Erica Synths Pico DSP – Compact multi-effect unit

  • Mørk Modules Pamela’s Pro Workout (Black Panel) – Clock & Modulation

  • Befaco Oneiroi – Ambient voice with internal mixer, VCA, FX

  • Erica Synths Black 1HP Blank

My questions:

  • Do you think this setup covers the basics well for my use case?

  • Are there any obvious gaps (e.g. utilities, modulation sources, VCAs, mixer channels)?

  • Would you replace or add any modules to improve sound design flexibility, modulation depth, or performance usability?

Any thoughts or insights – long or short – are more than welcome.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards,
Helmut

thanks to everyone for the advice, really!

I'm trying to figure out how to spend relatively little and learn how to use it for real. I would buy the sequencer to understand how it works, space is not a problem because I design the case and print in 3D

GOATed module. Buy one while you have the chance

I would dissuade you from using the SPACE-FX; it is too large, no modulation ability, and doesn't sound great. A better choice may be the PICO DSP; it sounds better, is smaller, and similar price. It doesn't have stereo-in but that may not be an issue.

i had the same logging off issue, but once i rechecked the "keep me logged in" box before login it didnt happen anymore

Is the only difference from mk1 the cable? With no difference in the unpowered module?

try Ok duck duck go.

I recently met a women named Pamela. After her workout she came back home and surprised me by playing the violin. It was a very romantic evening that i want to share with you.

Mutable Instruments Beads control setting:

The feedback control: The 4th wavetable bank.
Time control, fully clockwise.
Dry/wet control, fully clockwise.
Density control, slightly counter clockwise till it generates 1 or 2 grains.
Size control, long reversed slightly modulated with its attenurandomizer.
Shape control, between triangle and ramp up slightly modulated.
Reverb control, 3 o´clock.
Important note: Filter out the high frequency´s
Sequence with your favorite sequencer to taste.

sure, but shouldn't it be simpler? sometimes, it feels weird. "the internet" is perfectly capable of storing, analyzing our every move, reflected in ads and served content everwhere. but saving an actual deliberate choice? sorry, that's rocket science. not to diss modulargrid, but it's something i find odd not just here.

posted here for the filters on the youtube search thingy

What annoys me is having to reselect region and "reverb offers" in the marketplace basically every time I open the page.

Step 1: select region + deselect reverb
Step 2: observe that the URL is updated
Step 3: bookmark the URL
Step 4: always access marketplace via bookmark
Step 5: profit

Same here. Can't remember when I last had to log in. Using Safari.

(Not sure about the bank bit, TBH… I habour the suspicion a sizable contigent of users may have more money stored in modules than in their bank account)

do yiu have an external mixer outside od your interface that can handle converting euro levels to line levels? you might eant to look into the ES-9 and skipping sealegs and just multi track mixing the rack in your daw via adat the optx v2 is also an option for this

Hi all, I made a song after playing around on the Elmyra, finding some bassy drone sounds that I accompanied with some Solar 42f and Chromaplane. It's minimalistic, a bit dreamy, and I hope you like it ^_^

Glory to Elmyra

No, this is not possible.

Hi, I have a Doepfer A-190-5 midi cv module and need help with it. pitch and gate work fine, but how do you control cv2 and cv3? the manual is a preliminary manual translated from German, so it's not perfectly clear to me how to use cv2 and cv3. I think it says cv2 is controlled by midi velocity. i will try it soon. then cv3 is controlled by monoaftertouch. My sequencer is a yamaha qy 700. how do i control midi cc mono aftertouch from it? which midi cc # is mono aftertouch? thank you very much.

also it's not clear how to change the midi cc value of cv2 and cv3. is it the case that cv2 can only be velocity and cannot be changed? and cv3 can be changed to any midi cc?

For a truly acid sound, very close to the 303, you might also consider the TB-O module.
See: https://modulargrid.net/e/ge0sync-synth-tb-o
@wishbonebrewery has posted several videos on this topic in MG.

For a slowly evolving ambient patch, use the Jitter function. It's an ideal tool for a lively piece.

Here comes the Wavehaikus. A collection of micro patches built within Bitwigs PolyGrid as a base for the sketch. Accessible to all - be inspired, make it better.

Hi folks! This is supposed to be a eurorack geared towards acid bass and similar sounds.
I would like to use it in conjunction with my Polyend Tracker Mini (which I would use for the rhythm base).
What do you think? Do you have any other configurations to propose, possibly cheap (I would like to stay under €400 but I don't know if it's feasible)

-- Gigloada

I think you need a VCA, otherwise this will not work. Ideally you want a second envelope too, otherwise your filter(s) and VCA have to share.

If you are using the polyend tracker, do you really need a sequencer in the case? It's very large.
