I like the organisation, and I think myself it's good to group modules by the same manufacturer as well. And for example to put all the filters together. Although it shows we have more filters than we need! Perhaps not enough oscillators. There could be sense in organising the layers in a relatively logical/standard pathway. If you start with sequencers, then have oscillators in the adjacent row so that cable lengths are shorter and paths more obvious. Then perhaps filters, then envelopes, VCAs, mixers, effects. So I like your rows, not sure the rows are in the right order. Although LfOs might want a mixer nearby.

Yo! I am about a year into my modular adventure and I am having a hell of alot of fun. This is the first "Generative Ambient" patch I have felt confident enough in to actually share with the world.

Thanks to anyone who checks it out. Also huge thank you to ModularGrid and those of you in the forum. Learning how to participate in this wonderful corner of musicanship would not be possible without the community!

I don't if you have come across Lucas Marchal (dc11), but he makes deep/hypnotic techno, and has some great videos on the Verbos modules. You might find them interesting to see how he's patching his system.

When I was applying to universities, I needed help crafting a strong personal statement. HirePaperWriters https://hirepaperwriters.com/admission-paper-writers/ made the entire process easy and stress-free. Their admission paper writers understood exactly what admissions committees look for and helped me highlight my strengths in a clear and compelling way. The writer followed my instructions closely and delivered a unique, well-written paper ahead of the deadline. I appreciated the direct communication and the ability to request revisions. Thanks to their support, I felt confident submitting my application. I highly recommend HirePaperWriters to any student needing professional help with admission essays.

Hi! first of all many thanks for the response and noted about attaching link instead of picture. After reading your comment and spending some time in modular grid I added couple of modules and swapped others but didn't find place for all I'd wish. At this stage without having the chance to play with the system is very hard for me to judge what is essential and what could be added or swapped. I know building a system is very personal but at the moment I'm lost about how i can improve the system so I'm open for advice :P Anyways, here is the current state. Cheers!

You should post a link instead of a picture, easier for us to take a look. It looks like you've thought through it, and clearly have an aesthetic. My two cents are that you will likely need more VCAs to handle envelopes and modulation and you might want to consider some utilities to help you manipulate the system, like switches or routers or matrix mixers, particularly if you'll be playing live. Also, I always recommend utilities like sample and hold, comparators, or random voltage generators for folks, as they are just really fun and damn useful, but it's hard to conceptualize how they can be used until you play with them.

Good luck!

Thread: Bug report

If you make a rack with the doepfer cases that is 336hp (the width of two doepfer monster cases side by side), there is a black line that covers the rack at the far right.

Hi! I want to start building my own system to play at the studio but also thinking about performing live. Mike parker and Oscar mulero ar some of the names I follow. Percussion will be taken care of by an external drum machine and I was thinking to add a DFAM or Labyrinth to the system or just leave it outside the case to leave space for different modules. You can see in the picture what I've planned for now. Any suggestions about how to improve are really welcome. Cheers!

Thread: LabXpandered

This skif was built to accompany the Moog Labrinth and PWM Malevolent, where I felt the BSC & SCE would shine as a noise voice/random sequencer alond side the Caudal, & DB square wave sub octives. I get alot of "new(to me)" or hard to get tones out of this, compared to my other HW sources. Between this and the malevolent playground rack, I feel my modular needs are covered.

Into the second year of editing, the MP rack is 2x84 and very capable of drum and bass duties to accompany whatever it is I’m patching with the PWM Malevolent. Between this and the labxpandered rack, and the pedal board that is wired in, it’s the whole of my HW studio.

Hi friends,
With the Metropolix sequencer, can we define where we want the first step of a sequence, or must the sequence necessarily start at step 1 (= to the far left of the 8 steps)?
And can we define (and therefore move) this first step as we play the sequence?
Thanks for your help!

Here's an practical idea, building on what teatine and HGsynth said.

Rather than getting the Erica Synths Bass Drum or Bassline, you can get any 'normal' VCO by Erica Synths, combine it with a envelope generator / modulator (NANO ARC, Make Noise Maths, others), an acid filter and a VCA to get the same result, but in this case you can also wire everything differently and get things you didn't think of when you were shopping for a bass drum. That's the area that Eurorack shines in, and it's difficult to do this with regular synths.

Anyone saw Bertolt Meyer's performance at Superbooth yesterday? I was curiois about his live setup so I took pics and created his main rack here. I have to say, I'm impressed that he can squeeze 6 voices into a 2-row setup and still make it sound cool and interesting.

He was using it with a Maths, Pressure Points and a A149-2 CV converter fed with 2 MIDI CC channels from his arm. Also an Ableton Push as the brains of the setup.

It was great set and I had lots of fun vibing to the beats =)

Hi, it seems functional enough, but I don't see much in the way of "modular synthesis" for lack of a better word.

What's drawing you to Eurorack, or what do you expect to get out of this rack that you couldn't get out of a Digitakt plus an analogue monosynth for a third of the price (not counting the Oxi) or even a Polyend Play for half that.
-- teataine

Agreed with teataine, you have a fine synth here, but are missing out on two of the things that make modular synths so special - the ability to modulate parameters and the ability to create different signal paths on the same synth. I tend to think of my rack as a palette from which I build a new instrument each time I construct a patch. So, instead of getting modules that copy and paste what a monosynth or sequencer can do, think about things like modulators (e.g., lfos, random voltages, etc.), vcas, and utilities, and think about modules that allow for a lot of patching opprotunities. Feel free to check out my older comments, I've written a lot about utilities and planning a rack. I initially came here for advice myself with a rack plan that in retrospect would never have worked and would have left me dissatisfied with the hobby. Instead I restrained my buying to utilities and essentials until I had a solid foundation and understanding if what I was aiming for, only then branching into effects or drums or even oscillstors. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the above module types first, watch a ton of videos, and read manuals before buying. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the Reply

Ive all ready got all the Digitakt Rytm Digitone Octatrack plus synths etc but I just want to try something different be more hands on but eurorack is completely new to me so i guess im buying things blind

I want to try and build a Melodic Techno rack

Any advice help would be great

Thanks

Hi, it seems functional enough, but I don't see much in the way of "modular synthesis" for lack of a better word.

You have 4-6 channels of samples, a complete drum voice and two complete synth voices.

What's drawing you to Eurorack, or what do you expect to get out of this rack that you couldn't get out of a Digitakt plus an analogue monosynth for a third of the price (not counting the Oxi) or even a Polyend Play for half that.

Hi

What do u guys think for my Updated first Rack

Ive added the Behringers due to the cost but will swap them out if i find out that Eurorack is for me

What would u guys change if it was your Rack

Thanks

I've got the 188-2, and it's a very deep module, physically. So if you find one and decide to go this way, make certain it fits your case. You'll also need a filter to remove clock noise. I use the A-108.

Check out the A-188-1A, - 1B, -1C, -1D, -1X, and/or -1Y to see how they've split the larger tapped bbd into several smaller units with specific stage ranges.

I'm sure other BBD's exist from other companies, but that's probably a good place to start.

Best of luck!

Hello,

I was planning to get the Doepfer A188-2 because it has several simultaneous outputs with different delays available simultaneoulsy. However it is discontinued.

Is there any alternative? Or should I rather buy several simple (single-output) modules?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Thread: First Rack

I agree with Max that the Doepfer A1116 is probably 'more of the same' for you and therefore not that useful. There's other types of voices out there like wavetable vcos that you may enjoy for techno. But maybe you have enough voices already, in techno there's usually a limited amount of voices, and a lot of space that is filled up with effects like delays.

You mention you want to travel with this system. Eurorack can be bulky, heavy, break easily. You will have to plug and unplug everything between rides. If travel is important to you, maybe other types of synthesizers are more interesting to you. For example, Elektron devices can do much more in a much smaller space and no cables as well. I doubt you'll be happily euroracking on a train with this system on your lap.

Thread: First Rack

both semi-modular (mother + pico system) are a good starting point. Keep back in mind, that the pico-line is super-small and it can be a pain to patch and wiggle.

You are probably lacking some modulation-sources.

The Doepfer Mini-Syth is cool, but you allready have two kind of "pre-wired" voices in the rack.

Happy patching!

Power Consumption as CSV

Unicorn users can export the power consumption data sheets of their Racks as CSV to do whatever they want to do in Open Office/Excel.

Rack Chooser on the Detailpage

You now can choose from a module detailpage to which of your racks a module should be added.

Project has about thirty tracks total, earlier sections having a smaller number playing at one time, until the grand finale. Some patches include a Xaoc Sarajewo delay, a perennial favorite that adds loads of character, reverb ambience is provided by Fabfilter and Valhalla plugins as well as a native Ableton one.

Just got the Rostock - figured best to grab one before our supply chains crater. Thanks for your interest & best of luck with your productions!

Update :)
Eventually ordered a Supamix...
Needed a Path, a mixer and some random added to all that.
Should receive it soon and will get back here to update.

Hey all, made another song over the last couple of days. Enjoy ^_^

Continuous Shimmer by megoth on SoundCloud

Have been enjoying the Rample a lot these last couple of weeks, as it has provided a lot of ideas for various patches. Samples provided the foundation, but the Oxi Coral just took it away when I was jamming. I also decided to add another layer with Equator2, an excellent MPE softsynth.

OK. Maybe I’m missing something, but I deleted all the racks I had when I had an active Unicorn account, except for one 3-row 104HP rack.
Every time I try to add a module, it redirects me to the upgrade page. I’m well within the limits of the standard account, but now I’ve lost all my rack configurations and I’m a bit disappointed. I logged out to rule out a possible cache issue, but no luck.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Let's swap some ideas, if you like!
-- Zeta_fxn

That's a lovely idea.

I have had another think about my case and come up with this.

ModularGrid Rack

My thinking with the S.B.G. is it gives me amplification into the Morphagene if I want to plug a microphone in. Plus it doubles as a distortion unit and external FX send. I'm thinking stereo from MG into XPan plus up to four mono pannable inputs. Or I go Mimeophon into XPan? Still can't quite decide. Of course, the big losses are Pams and Gliss but I have created a second smaller case that could be used alongside this but also function as a little machine in its own right. And I still have 2hp in the SS case for a Nearness which could definitely come in handy.

Here's my little machine. It's in the Nifty Case so I also get some DAW integration if I want it. I'm thinking this might actually work, with each case independently valid but also complementary. Any feedback would be great.

ModularGrid Rack

thanks for the tip. that thought did cross my mind. the fiberglass shell isnt very thick and i was already worried that inwould compromise the integrity of the whole shell by drilling a hole. i was gifted a Behringer PSU so ill be using that.

Also, a bigger and fancier mixer will not make your patches sound better. I use mostly Mixup and 3xMIA for mixing. Mixers to not make my patches sound better, but they help make them more complex--add more voices.

I have a very similar system--Rubicon/Dixie II+/Ultrafold rather than DPO, I don't have the Verbos oscillator, and I got rid of Pressure Points. I find a wealth of wonderful sounds on a regular basis. The lack of Echophon is not limiting your sound. I often start out with the oscillator (DPO in your case, Rubicon/Dixie II+ for me) and work with it and the AD envelope until I get a sound I like. If the original voice from the oscillator is not interesting, then the patch will not work for me. Then I run it thru Optomix, Mimeophon and QPAS, and start playing with modulation. I use various references for patch ideas. There are many patch ideas on the Shared System on YouTube. I use those videos for ideas even tho I don't have Echophon. Let's swap some ideas, if you like!

I like that!
Have been tinkering with the idea of square waves only, myself.
How many tracks are we listening to? Is that a feedback delay network providing the ambience in the background?

Back to your initial question: A stereo mixer that is more full featured with mutes, FX send, an EQ that is as simple as it is efficient and a low pass gate in every input, is

(Tannhäuser Gates).

Performance oriented and a good fit for a shared system I think.

It does nothing to the sound. As far as my experience, it sounds rather transparent. If you drive it hard it will distort, though. It basically arranges 7 signals in a fixed stereo panorama. Nothing can be changed, not the pan position, not even volume, it's strictly minimal. I was not sure about it being any use when I first got one. I now have at least one in every rack. It needs no learning, no thinking, just use it and you know what it will do. It makes you concentrate on your patch rather than fiddeling with your mixer. A very elegant design.

I would advise you to not drill a hole in the suitcase for your power cable but keep the suitcase shell intact for better transport (otherwise you will always have to deal with that cable) Just keep it all inside. what sort of power suply are you using. I use a 4MS one that works great with a laptop powerbank.

thanks for the info! i think what ive decided to do is get some thin wood shims and affix those to the inside of the suitcase sides with the 2 part JB Weld compound, screw the rack rails into those shims, then drill a hole in the backside of the case large enough for a power cord to easily fit through (maybe glue a rubber gasket around the hole to keep it from degrading the power cord over time, then screw my power supply onto the rack and modules and i think that should do it!
