In the "OFF" position, the Tone knob is disabled, resulting in a bright, trashy fuzz/distortion sound. In the "1" position, you get a mid-scooped sound reminiscent of the rounded, "Big Muff"-style sound of mozzarella cheese scattered unobtrusively on a pizza.
