Diode Based Wavefolder
MNGRL Wavefolder
This is a diode-based, precision wavefolder designed to add extra harmonic content to your audio signal. Similar, and yet completely different, to devices such as the Zvex Machine and Tim Escobedo's Tripple Fuzz, this pedal splits your audio signal into 6 sections based on their amplitude, and then inverts every second section and mixes them all back together together.
The effect this has on your sound can range from a slight extra bit of high frequency oomph, to pseudo-octaves generated above your sound, to absurd laser gun sounds, to chainsaws from hell.
Controls:
Volume: This controls... the volume.
Fund: The amount of the fundamental frequency of your audio signal that is mixed into the wavefolder section. It determines how prominent your original note is amongst the generated upper harmonics.
Shape: The mix balance between the inverted and non-inverted sections of the folder audio signal. At 12 o'clock the mixing is 50/50 (maximum wavefolding sound). On guitar it may sound just like a dry blend as you turn to the extremes of either side, but the effect is much more clear on bass or synth.
Fold: The input gain. This is the main "wavefolding" control, as the amount of wavefolding is determined by the input gain. As the MNGRL runs off an internal voltage doubler, this stage has up to 40db of boost on tap.
Smooth: A simple lowpass tone control to smooth out the upper harmonics should they get too crazy. Just like a RAT tone control, the maximum amount of high cut is clockwise.
Wave: A dry mix control. Mixes your un-wavefolded audio with the wavefolded audio. This actually mixes the dry signal from after the input gain, so if the Fold is very high, you may need to have this very low.
