What’s Flancher ?

Flancher is a line of 4 different stereo, analog, voltage controlled pedals. They use BBD (bucket brigade device) chips running internally at 15V and are comparable to late 70’s chorus delay studio rack units such as Roland SBF-325 or Boss DM-100.

The FL9 and FL7 are geared towards pitch modulation such as chorus, flanger, vibrato, and quasi-ring mod sounds.
The FL5B and FL5D are delays (B stands for Bright, D for Dark).
There are subtle but significant differences between the two units in each pair.

The FL9 uses a 256 stage BBD, while the FL7 uses a 1024 stage BBD. More stages means more delay time, but also more noise.
The FL7 has more delay time available (from 1.5ms to 34ms), but the sound is more filtered. The FL9 has a much smaller range of times (from 0.4ms to 9ms), but can reach ultra-short times that the FL7 cannot.
These differences mean that the FL9 more suited for flanger sounds, while the FL7 is a more natural fit for chorus sounds.

The FL5B and FL5D both use a 4096 stage BBD, but apply it in different ways. The FL5D has a more lo-fi character overall: the tone is more filtered, there are more low-end frequencies, and the feedback is more prone to distortion.
The FL5D starts clipping with a 1V peak-to-peak signal, while the FL5B begins clipping at 2V peak-to-peak.
The FL5B has a range from 12ms to 470ms, with a maximum clean time of 280ms.
The FL5D has a range from 16ms to 630ms, with a maximum clean time of 350ms.
