This Module is a prototype or in a concept phase.

Model P (2x 4Stage Phaser) Modded

Maffez

A dual SSI2140-based phaser it is!

This module was kind of inpired by the Symetrix Phase Filter, a semi-oblique rackmount phaser built around two SSM2040s. The trick of this box was that the frequency control between the two phaser blocks (of 4 stages each) was uneven, resulting in a thicker swoosh.

You have a single audio input with level control that is scaled for hitting the phaser a bit too hard when fully cranked up (this can soudn broken in a good way), some modulation CV input and an output. For controls you get manual frequency setting and resonance, as well as speed and amount setting for an inbuilt triangle LFO. The MOD socket is a breaking jack, so when you plug external CV in there, this replaces the internal LFO (pre-amount setting) with whatever you plug in there.

The trimmer on the back set the CV balance between the two x4 allpass blocks. In the centre position the frequency response of the two blocks are the same, and the more you tilt in one direction… you get it 🙂

NOTE: This Version (1.3) has 2 little errors that need to be corrected!

FIX 1: Depth Pot. Do not solder middle lug (Pin2) to the PCB. (Middle solderpad of Pot stays unconnected)
Instead bend and solder the middle lug to Signal-In (Pin3)

Fix 2: U2 TL074. Rotate R45 (100K) by 90 degrees and connect it only to the lower solder pad.
Then add a wire between Pin 10 (TL074) and R45´s other half. (Upper solderpad of R45 stays unconnected)

Modded Version:
CV Balance Trimmer (1KB) to Frontpanel.

Solder bridge JP1 (back of the PCB) provides a fixed circa 10% dry signal.
If you want the phaser to be 100% wet, simply leave the solder jumper open.
If you prefer a more dry signal, simply use a smaller resistor instead of R21. (100k)
My end, R21 is 10K and an 100KB Mix Pot was added to Frontpanel.
