voltage controlled clip limiter

Clipper is a simple diode-based hard clip limiter.
The CLIP LVL pot sets a 'window' of allowed voltages and if the input signal tries to extend outside the window the signal is clipped/chopped off.
The maximum allowed output with the CLIP LVL pot at max is approx ±7V, any signal above this will be clipped.
When the CLIP LVL pot is turned all the way down no input signal will be passed at all.

There are 2 CV inputs, each with an attentuator:

CLIP is simple voltage control over the amplitude window.
+ve CV widens the window, -ve CV will narrow it, squashing your input down into smaller, flat-topped versions of the original signal.
With the CLIP LVL pot turned down you can patch an envelope in here and use CLIPPER as a very bad VCA!
With complex audio, sine, triangle, or saw waveforms the sound will be increasingly distorted as you close off the limit window. With squarewaves as an input, however, CLIPPER works exactly the same as a regular VCA!

The ASYM input is for asymetrical clipping.
+ve CV patched here moves the whole window downwards, so input signals clip earlier in the +ve direction than -ve.
-ve CV has the opposite effect.
With nothing patched in the input signal is routed here instead turning CLIPPER into a primitive wavefolder! The peaks of an incoming sinewave will turn back in on itself when they reach the clip threshold with ASYM CV pot turned up.

IN BOOST gives the input signal some extra gain before the clipping stage so you can get nasty distortion at a decent output level.
Turned all the way down is unity gain, all the way up is approx X2 gain.

To get the more out of this module you might want to experiment with a VCA before the input to get voltage-controlled distortion/fuzz effects, you can also clip sub-audio CV signals!
